4 Astrology Books I Actually Use (As a Tarot Reader)

Hello there you Magickal Beings and welcome to Spring! 🌸

As March began to wind down, I assumed my celestial explorations would drift off with it… however, it was not to be.

I’ve always held an interest in learning Astrology, but like any language, it requires study, patience, and a willingness to not immediately “get it.” And like the good Gemini that I am, patience has not always been my strongest virtue. While Geminis are eternal students and quick learners, when something doesn’t click right away… we can be a bit resistant to sticking it out.

And yet something shifted.

As I spent more time with the stars this past month, Astrology began to open itself to me in a new way. The language softened. The symbols started to speak. What once felt dense and overwhelming began to feel… alive.

Which, yes, may sound obvious—of course things improve with practice—but this felt different. This time, something clicked.

Even more unexpectedly, my study of Astrology began to deepen my relationship with Tarot.

I’ve long been aware of the connections between Astrology and the Major Arcana—I even explored them in my book, Read Like a Queen: Real-Life Insights to SLAY Your Tarot Practice. But this time, as I allowed myself to go deeper, the planets, signs, and houses stopped feeling like abstract correspondences and instead became living forces within the cards themselves.

Astrology wasn’t just a system to learn—it became a roadmap.

A way to understand my patterns, my timing, my inner landscape—past, present, and the trajectory unfolding ahead.

Now, I’ll be the first to say: there are a lot of Astrology books out there. And since Astrology isn’t my primary modality, I’m incredibly selective about what earns a place on my bookshelf.

When I choose a resource, I’m looking for something that doesn’t just inform—but translates, activates, and integrates.

Here’s what that means for me:

• Easy to Understand. Astrology is a complex language and some books (like Tarot) can fall short in teaching you the words, but not how to speak in sentences.

• Teaches How To Apply Astrology. It's all fine and good to know that Mars is in Leo, North Node is in Gemini, Sun is in Capricorn and Jupiter and Saturn are Trining each other. But how does this play out in life? The books I've selected not only explain how these play a role in life but also give tangible examples of where the planets like to come out and play.

• Unique and Creative Approach. I'm an artist through and through. And I appreciate using Astrology, Tarot, Numerology and all other modalities in creative and unique ways. Appealing to the many senses I find is a great way to learn.

• Reusability. I don't just want to one and done it with an Astrology book. I want to be comfortable with picking it back up time and again to continue learning.

So here are the 5 Astrology Books I actually use over and over again...

The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need by Joanna Martine Woolfolk.

This big mama jama of a tome has been on the market since the 90s—and for good reason. It was one of the first books I owned that took something as vast and intimidating as Astrology and broke it down piece by piece… or rather, planet by planet.

When I first picked this up (and yes, released it back into the wild only to repurchase it later), the internet wasn’t nearly as accessible as it is now. Astrology websites and chart calculators were clunky, overly technical, and not exactly beginner-friendly.

What made this book stand out then—and honestly, still does now—is how approachable it is. The explanations are clear, grounded, and designed to teach, not overwhelm.

And the back section? A gem.

It includes detailed tables to help you track where the planets were at the time of your birth—something that felt incredibly empowering before the days of instant chart generators. Even now, there’s something deeply satisfying about understanding the mechanics behind your chart rather than just clicking a button.

And of course, Tarot makes an appearance as well.

This was the first book by Theresa that I purchased, and I’ve never regretted that decision. In fact, it played a meaningful role in shaping how I began to think about the relationship between Tarot and Astrology—an approach that eventually helped inspire my workshop Your Big Three: Tarot–Astro Bridge.

I will say this, though: this is a fantastic second Astrology book. Theresa assumes you already have a bit of foundational knowledge about the signs, planets, and houses. But once you have that groundwork, this book becomes an incredibly practical guide for understanding how the stars can inform your life here on Earth—especially when it comes to work, purpose, and direction.

In Glamstrology, Michael Herkes spills the tea on creating your own cosmic glow-up—blending Astrology with personal style in a way that feels both empowering and fun.

Where this book really stood out to me was in how Michael breaks down the houses.

Now, I had technically learned the houses through other resources, but this was the book where they finally clicked. The explanations are approachable, intuitive, and framed in a way that makes them easy to actually use, not just understand.

The focus here is very intentional: this isn’t about heavy, introspective planetary work. Instead, Glamstrology hones in on the parts of your chart that shape your allure, presence, and outward expression—primarily your Sun, Rising, and Venus.

So no, we’re not spiraling into Saturn lessons or Pluto transformations here.

This is about embodiment. Expression. The art of becoming seen.
