Explore the social media platforms I use to grow my Tarot brand, connect with clients, and share my work without turning social media into a full-time job.

Hello everyone and welcome to a long overdue blog post. I feel as though I've neglected this part of my website for a wee bit and honestly... That's okay. I'm giving myself the grace to say that we be busy in these here parts!

Let's get a few announcements out of the way first:

Staarcon is happening!

For my convention friends, I'm going to be at Staarcon this year!! Finally after three years of scheduling conflicts and calendar reworkings, I'm going to be in Palm Beach Gardens, FL and delivering readings, an original workshop, and serving on a panel! And here's the beautiful part: it's a hybrid conference. There is an in-person conference happening if you want to get away for the weekend to beautiful Palm Beach Gardens, there is an online conference happening at the same time! I hope to see you in-person of course but if travel is not feasible then please consider joining myself and all the other incredible presenters virtually.

Date: 10/2 - 10/4
Location: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel and Executive Meeting Center Palm Beach Gardens
Tickets: https://staarcon.com/?ref=stella-boheme-e1qp
Staarcon Website: https://staarcon.com/

The Business of Tarot Podcast is officially in Season 1

I've launched my podcast discussing how to run a Tarot business and asked some incredible guests on to chat with me and talk it out! This is my first foray into podcasting and honestly I'm loving it so much that I'm already planning a season 2. You can check it out on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm working on bringing it to more platforms the season progresses.

Social Media Outlets and Tarot Reading

Okay now that we have the announcements out of the way, let's drop into the blog's meat: Social Media. We love it, we hate it, and sometimes we love to hate it (or vice versa). But the reality of today's world is this: Social Media is in our lives and constantly changing and shaping the world we live in.

With so many outlets though, which ones do you choose? Which ones can have the most impact for a Tarot business? Here are a few that I've found the most success with and a few that may need a little extra time to blossom...

Instagram

Instagram is my preferred social media outlet for business-related content. Given the highly visual nature of both being a Tarot reader and a drag queen it would make sense that I would lean towards a channel with a photo emphasis. What I enjoy is that there are a myriad of filters that can be used to put a specific vibe or color scheme on the photos. I also found this was the easiest for me to build up a consistent calendar around: Mondays are a weekly message reading, Wednesday a midweek check in, Thursday typically a podcast announcement, and Friday a weekend message. This also leaves an option for additional posting material.

Instagram has a few features that are quite handy as well such as posting photos, videos, reels (short video clips), and a live function that is used often by many Tarot Readers.

Facebook

The social media platform that seemed to take over and dominate all the others. Facebook remains one of the most useful platforms for running a Tarot business because it offers a lot of functionality beyond simple posts. You can run ads, create events, share videos and photos, and build communities around your work.

Because Facebook and Instagram are both owned by Meta, you can also cross-post between the two without needing a separate scheduling platform like Metricool or Hootsuite. Meta's own Business Suite makes it easy to manage content across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads from one place.

Bluesky

This is a fairly new platform and not gonna lie. I have a Bluesky account but I rarely use it. The platform is very similar to Facebook in what you are able to post: everything from a simple status update to photos and videos (granted you are limited to 300 characters per post). Bluesky still feels a little like it's in the fledgling stage but offers a nice alternative to the Meta-based platforms. It just may be a little harder to build up the audience of followers.

Threads

Another Meta-based platform only this time it's a similar vibe to X (formerly known as Twitter). Threads is an interesting platform as you don't really sign up for it as much as a space is set aside for you if you have an Instagram account, with the same ability to cross post without having to jump platforms.

Substack

Substack is quite the new platform to me. There are times it feels like a less business-oriented version of LinkedIn. With the ability to write articles, post updates, go live, and share photos, Substack has features like profile subscriptions you are able to set for different followers and readers. My Substack functions as part musings and part scrapbook of what I'm up to in the world, Tarot and otherwise.

At the end of the day, there are many social media platforms and channels that can enter into your Tarotsphere. Having done a little exploring, these are the ones I've found the most success with in building my brand.

With social media, you don't need to be on everything all the time, as that can quickly turn into another full-time job in your Tarot business.

Now I'm curious... What social media platforms do you use and have found success with?

Have a magical day, friends!
